Happy Holi Tips to Maintain Flawless Skin and Healthy Locks for Women and Men

Happy Holi Tips to Maintain Flawless Skin and Healthy Locks for Women and Men

Holi is a joyous festive season of colours and it’s just around the corner. Apart from the significance of this festival, everyone awaits getting together as a happy community, playing with coloured dyes applied or thrown at each other.

While we can’t wait for it to arrive as well, we’d love to add even more fun to this season. So that everyone can enjoy together without worrying about the after-effects of Holi colours, we’re sharing personal care tips for all skin tones and hair types.

Personal Skincare and Haircare Tips for Holi

Holi is a wonderful season but let’s face it, the colours are harmful. They can stain the hair with unwanted hues depending on the colour, your hair type, and how long it stays. Even short hair, be it a man or woman, presents the same issue with Holi colour dyes. The chemicals in these colours can cause drying and damaging effects on the hair, making it brittle, frizzy, and prone to breaking.

Tip 1 – Apply hair oil before playing with Holi colours

We recommend applying herbal oil to your hair before getting into the Holi-playing mood. This will help create a barrier on your hair, preventing the colours from seeping in too deeply. Also, by applying oil to your hair, you make it easier to wash off the colours while you shower after the Holi celebration.

Those who have longer hair can consider tying it to minimise exposure.

Tip 2 – Use a scalp-friendly shampoo while washing off the Holi colours

After the event, you can use home remedies like yoghurt, coconut milk, or a paste of gram flour and milk to remove these colours. Feel free to use an herbal shampoo to also rid any effects of the synthetic colours that cause scalp irritation. It can gently clean your scalp and rejuvenate your hair while removing any dirt or other pollutants.

Remember not to use bleach or harsh chemicals that are likely to further damage your hair.

Tip 3 – Use a good face wash and body soap to cleanse your skin

You can use a good face wash and body soap to rejuvenate your skin. While it may not be able to completely wash off the synthetic colours in one go, it will cleanse and nourish your skin. However, it is important to choose the right face wash for all skin types. So, select a facial cleanser and body soap that are not too harsh and do not strip away natural oils from the skin. Otherwise, this could leave your skin dry and irritated.

Stick to applying these skin-friendly body soaps and face wash daily until the colours wear off. That said, you can continue using them to keep your skin nourished and fresh.

The After-Party Skin Cleansing Tips to Remember

While the advice above provides you with certain preventive tactics, here are some additional cleansing tips that can help you.

  • Oil cleansing before facial cleanser – use a natural oil to help loosen the colour that is stuck onto your skin. Massage it gently on your skin and then wipe it with a soft cloth.
  • Wash your face with lukewarm water – Use lukewarm water to wash your face and body. Hot water can simply cause more skin irritation. Scrub off the impurities gently to avoid skin irritation. Also, if you rub the cleanser too hard on your skin, it might make it harder for the colour to come off.
  • Replenish your skin’s tenderness with a moisturiser – After you are done cleansing, dry yourself and apply a skin moisturiser to soothe your skin and rejuvenate it.

Holi is a time for celebrating joy in all its colourful glory. With a little pre-festival prep, we can enjoy worry-free and keep our skin and hair glowing.

FAQs

  • Is it okay to wash my hair before Holi?

Best you avoid doing this as washing your hair’s natural oils can also protect you against harsh colours.

  • What can I apply to my skin before going to play with Holi colours?

Apply sufficient coconut oil or a skin-friendly lotion to your face and body to prevent colour staining. Use petroleum jelly around your nails and lips for extra protection.
